About Derek,
Derek Jason's career
started in 1967 after spending 12 years in the Royal Marines, the
fact that his repertoire includes many American names, and that he
is also a multi-lingual vocalist led him to cabaret and cruise
bookings, this took him all over the world, The highlight of this
being to top the bill for a month at the famous "Titos" in Palma,
Majorca.
Then with an offer he couldn't refuse, to join the
"Rockin' Berries" in 1976, This challenge to front an already
established top of the bill comedy group was something that gave
Kudos to his career. prestige bookings where the outcome
taking him throughout Great Britain including the London Palladium
and two number one pantomimes, one with Cannon & Ball the
other with Les Dawson.
Derek has great respect for Bruce Forsyth and he
jumped at the chance of twice appearing with him on the
"Generation Game". the audience fell about as Derek did his
Bruce Forsyth impression and the outcome was sensational comedy
with the real Bruce. other television appearances to mention
a few was Boon, Who do you do ? The upper Hand, Stay
Lucky, Woof, Emmerdale, Coronation Street, The Krankies,
Pebble mill at One, and many others.
Derek left the "Rockin' Berries" in 1983 to become a
solo act again, he has a strong personality, much warmth and is a
determined professional. Combine these assets with over a
hundred Impressions, ranging from James Mason to Worzel
Gummidge, and the ability to have an audience high on comedy one
moment, bathed in pathos for another and listening to a well
sung balled the next and you have a performer who can excel at all
levels of the business.
In 1987
Derek played the part of Gippetto in Pinocchio, he very much
enjoyed playing this roll for two reasons ; it was an ambition to
get into the field of character acting and the other was that he
played alongside his talented wife Beverley, who played
Pinocchio.
In 1988 he
was resident in cabaret with his own floor show, which included
Beverley as one of the three dancers, at the Copthorne
Hotel, Birmingham. The theme was the roaring twenties, and
Derek Excelled as the God Father, and other characters ranging
from James Cagney, Humphrey Bogart and Edward G
Robinson
In
1989 Derek starred in Dick Whittington as Idol Jack at the
Pomegranate Theatre, Chesterfield. Derek became a born again
Christian along with his wife Beverley in 1993; Using the talents
the Lord gave him he has performed in Gospel shows and ministered
through outreach.
He now puts
all his talent and energy into teaching others to sing, play the
